Introduction:
Welcome football fans!
This blog is for South Jersey High School Football. South Jersey is defined as Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties although teams from Ocean County may be included in my Group 1 rankings if they have been placed in Group 1 South and New Egypt is included as they play a Burlington County schedule (although I did not include Trenton Catholic). So South Jersey is defined as the following conferences: Burlco-Olympic, Cape-Atlantic, Colonial, and Tri-County. I cover only what I know - primarily Group 1, The Tri-County Conference and Gloucester County are my areas of coverage.
Main Sections of this blog:
Rankings are not official until Monday morning
Rankings for 2006, 2007 & 2008 are posted way below.
2009 rankings will start from where 2008 left off and teams will move up or down as the current season progresses. This is not a projection of where I think that they will finish. It is a progression as they show their stuff. It will balance out in the end. I wilol begin theses reanking after all schools (except maybe Clayton, which has a reduced schedule) have played at least one game.
(Pleae note: I am sorry but I removed the sidebar photos to spped up the blog. Many of them will eventually be placed on my BORO70 Facebook page)
1. Group 1 Rankings - 22 teams ranked from top to bottom
2. South Jersey Top 20 [This will replace the Small School Rankings (Groups 1 & 2, Public & Non-Public). Since the Courier Post is changing it's format, I will go along with the change) - Still deciding how many to rank - top 20 or 25 - see poll question on sidebar
3. Tri-County Conference rankings - 18 teams ranked form top to bottom
4. Gloucester County rankings - 13 teams ranked form top to bottom
5. Public Schools Playoff History
6. Largest Margins of Victory (60 point margin or higher)

When I rank teams I stopped including rankings from other sources. Nobody's rankings are perfect, so rank your team as the best that anyone gives you.
This is all just for fun!
Obviously I will never see all of these teams. Help is appreciated. I compare views as per http://www.nj.com/forums/hsfootballs/ and as per e-mails. Newspaper views are irrelevant as I do not view their rankings until after I post mine.
You may comment here. You may check the "other" box if you are not a registered user. I can post or not post your comments. I will most likely not post anonymous comments unless it is something that contributes to the discussion for that week. Please put your forum name or real name or another way for me to identify the source if you want your comment posted. If you give me an e-mail so that I can respond to you, then I can tell you what needs to be edited in your comments before posting (such as re-sending without your name and/or e-mail so that I don't publish your name and/or e-mail).
Please inform me of any typos! I have bad eyes and bad fingers.

My top 5 for each public group:
Group 4:
1. Cherokee (9-0)
2. Williamstown (9-0)
3. Egg Harbor Twp. (9-0)
4. Washington Twp. (7-2)
5. Shawnee (5-4)
Playoffs:
Cherokee (1) 14, Eastern (8) 3
Egg Harbor Twp. (2) 21, Shawnee (7) 17
Toms River East (3) 28, Washington Twp. (6) 13
Williamstown (4) 21, Toms River North (5) 13
next round:
Cherokee (1) vs Williamstown (2)
Egg Harbor Twp. (2) vs Toms River East (3)
These should be some good games!
Group 3:
1. Hammonton (8-1) - continually impressive
The next 4 could be in any order as TC beat Seneca and Pemberton but lost to BT and Pemberton beat BT, but my sidebar poll ranked TC higher and TC and Seneca won in the first round.
2. Timber Creek (7-2) - loss to BT hurts, but stays ahead of Seneca because they beat them
3. Seneca (7-2) - looking good and could be a playoff surprise!
4. Pemberton (5-4)
5. Burlington Twp. (6-3) - 40-0 loss to Pemberton keeps them below them
Playoffs:
Hammonton (1) 30, Winslow Twp. (8) 0
Timber Creek (2) 12, Moorestown (7) 0
Lacey Twp. (3) 33, Pemberton (6) 14
Seneca (4) 27, Burlington Twp.(5) 7
next round:
Hammonton (1) vs Seneca (4)
Timber Creek (2) vs Lacey Twp. (3)
Hammonton is dominating, but Seneca is on a roll
TC has home field but Lacey Twp. is an excellent team
Group 2:
1. Delsea (9-0) - trying to prove that they are the best in South Jersey
2. West Deptford (9-0) - anxiuous to revenge last year's loss in final
3. Haddonfield (8-1) - clearly 3rd but a long ways from the top 2
4. Bridgeton (6-3) - 5th seed, but takes over 4th with win
5. Cinnaminson (6-3) - clearly 5th after loss to Bridgeton
Playoffs:
Delsea (1) 56, Woodrow Wilson (8) 18
West Deptford (2) 52, Buena (7) 12
Haddonfield (3) 13, Willingboro (6) 8
Bridgeton (5) 28, Cinnaminson (4) 18
Next Round:
Delsea (1) vs Bridgeton (5)
West Deptford (2) vs Haddonfield (3) (re-match)
Top seeds should move on easily!
Group 1:
1. Penns Grove (8-1) -they beat Glassboro and deserve to be ranked here until they lose, even though I am sure some rankings will place Glassboro above them
2. Glassboro (8-1) - they hold this spot until they lose another one
3. Woodbury (8-1) - beat Paulsboro and must stay above them even though some rankings place Paulsboro above them
4. Paulsboro (8-1)
5. Pennsville (7-2) - they get this ranking but it is debatable, but won the poll question 2 weeks ago and thus will maintain it.
Playoffs:
Glassboro (1) 35, Palmyra (8) 0
Penns Grove (2) 14, Schalick (7) 6
Woodbury (3) 28, Pennsville (6) 21
Paulsboro (4) 29, Haddon Heights (5) 0
Next round:
Glassboro (1) vs Paulsboro (4)
Penns Grove (2) vs Woodbury (3)
Home teams will be favored, but anything can happen!
Florence was 6th seed in Central Group 1 and lost to Highland Park 8-7.
Burlington City did not have enough power points.
Non-Publics (all together):
1. St. Augustine Prep (8-1) - gone from playoffs, but still best Non-Public in the South
2. Paul VI (8-1) - will find it tough in playalso gone from playoffs
Next 4 are debatable:
3. Gloucester Catholic (7-2)
4. St. Joseph's (7-2)
5. Holy Spirit (7-2) - take over 5th spot as they moved on in the playoffs
Bishop Eustace (7-2) - lost in playoffs -but may get wildcard!
Playoffs:
Non-Public Group 4:
Don Bosco (1) 55, Red Bank Catholic (8) 7 - Bosco is best team in state and nationally ranked
Notre Dame (2) vs Bergen Catholic (7) - play today at 4:00
St. Peter's Prep (6) 47, Paul VI (3) 10
Seton Hall Prep (5) 49, St. Augustine (4) 14
Next round:
Don Bosco (1) vs Seton Hall Prep (5)
Notre Dame (2) or Bergen Catholic (7) vs Seton Hall Prep (5)
Bosco will win it all!
Non-Public Group 3:
Pope John (1) 28, Delbarton (8) 21
St. Joe's (Montvale) (2) 42, Bishop Ahr (7) 6
Holy Spirit (6) 28, DePaul (3) 21
Immaculata (4) 42, Bishop Eustace (5) 7
Next round:
Pope John (1) vs Immaculata (4)
St. Joe's (Montvale) (2) vs Holy Spirit (6)
Home teams should win, but it would be great if Spirit could make it through another round!
Non-Public Group 2:
St. Joe's(Hammonton) (1) 41, Pingry (4) 0
Gloucester Catholic (2) 33, Morris Catholic (3) 7
next round:
St. Joe's(Hammonton) (1) vs Gloucester Catholic (2)
The all South Jersey final will be palyed at Paul VI and should be a very good game!
There are no South Jersey teams in Non-Public Group 1.

12. Washington Twp. (7-2) - Group 4 #4 - (125)

Let me know if I missed any that were 60 points or higher or if I have typos or other errors:

There is also a 103-0 game - Bordentown Manual Training over Logan Athletic Club (Phila.) in 1922. I am not sure whether to count them as high schools.
Learn when to "take a knee".
Sometimes such scores "can't be helped" as stuff happens, but there are times when you just run toward the tackler and go down. Yes, the 2nd and 3rd string want to score, too. BUT what was the score when you put them in and were you shuffling players in and out early in the game? If the margin is 50 or higher, the coach will hear me yell "That's enough coach!"

Only 5 times has neither appeared in playoffs!
Paulsboro has made 27 appearances = 79.4% of the time
Glassboro has appeared in the playoffs 25 times (not counting 1974 "declared champion") = 73.5% of the time
They have both been in the playoffs 21 times = 61.8% of the time
Paulsboro is 16-5 in championship games
Glassboro is 7-8 in championship games + 1 championship in 1974 when they were "declared" champions because there were no other qualifiers in the system used that year.
Combined they have been in the finals 36 times which makes 52.9% of the finalists.
Combined, they have won 22 championships (23 counting 1974), which gives them 67.6 % of all on-the-field championships. Paulsboro currently is one short of having 50% of all championships. This does not include Glassboro's "declared championship". If you add Woodbury's 5 championships (Woodbury is 5-2 in championship games and has appeared in the playoffs 15 times), then Gloucester County has all but 6 Championships - Burlington Twp. (2), Palmyra, Florence & Schalick (2) - for 82.35%.
Paulsboro is 7-2 against Glassboro in championship games
Paulsboro is 2-3 against Glassboro in semi-finals
It's a BORO thing - you wouldn't understand!
Let me know if I goofed!

playoff - Penns Grove at Glassboro
Championships:
Shawnee wins Group 3 with a 28-7 victory over Hammonton
Who should be #1?
The only common opponent was Hammonton. Mainland beat them by 31 and Shawnee beat them by 21.
Delsea wins Group 2 in a tight game with a last secong FG over West Deptford 17-14.
Glassboro wins Group 1 with a 28-8 win over Penns Grove.
Since Glassboro beat Paulsboro by 8 which beat West Deptford by 9, that would give Glassboro a 17 point advantage, but Delsea beat Deptford by 36 and Glassboro beat Deptford by 20 which would give Delsea a 16 point advantage. So point spreads are even, but Glassboro went undefeated whereas Delsea lost to a non-playoff team.
Holy Cross wins Non-Public 2 with a 7-0 win over Hudson Catholic. With 2 losses to playoff teams and one loss to a non-playoff team, it is hrd to know where to place them.
So, I rank the Champions:
1. Mainland
2. Shawnee
3. Glassboro
4. Delsea
5. Holy Cross
Amongst non-champions:
Cherokee looks to be the strongest by far and should be #3 in South Jersey
Washington Twp. beat Williamstown and they come after the undefeated teams.
St. Augustine only lost in the playoffs. they lost by a big score, but the team they lost to is a great team. They get ranked right behind Williamstown.
Paulsboro would be next with their great defense and only 1 loss.
Hammonton has 3 losses and one could consider them next, but Egg Harbor Township with 4 losses had better performances against their common opponents and beat Hammonton by 18. Hard to put Egg Harbor Twp. any higher with 4 losses, but they definitely belong above Hammonton.
Eastern beat Washington Twp. They lost to Mainland by 28 and Hammonton lost to Mainland by 31. Egg Harbor Twp. lost to Mainland by 3.
Anothet team to consider is Triton. They lost to Shawnee by 26 and 35 and Hammonton lost by 21.
So, my top 10 for all of the traditional South Jersey area is:
1. Mainland 12-0
2. Shawnee 12-0
3. Cherokee 9-2 - lost to Shawnee and Southern
4. Glassboro 12-0
5. Washington Twp. 8-3 - lost to Cherokee, Mainland and Eastern - can't be higher with 3 losses, but they are ranked higher than 3 one loss teams.
6. Williamstown 9-1 - lost to Washington Twp. or would have been #4
7. St. Augustine 10-1 - lost to Bergen Catholic
8. Paulsboro 9-1 - lost to Glassboro
9. Egg Harbor Twp. 6-4 - lost to Atlantic City, Ocean City, Cherokee and Mainland,
10. Eastern 7-3 - lost to Pennsauken, Cherokee and Mainland - loss to Pennsauken keeps them from being ranked #5
2008: Small School Rankings
I am having trouble posting comments in this section, but I do read them and absorb them.
I am not listing the computer rankings as I think that their bogusness has been well proven. I may get back to them later in the season.
Explanations of rankings are in the weekly reports above and below.
I question whether some of the non-public teams should even be a part of these rankings, but I will follow the CP's lead and if their enrollment is less than the largest Group 2 in the state, I will include them. CP rankings are for 11/29
