11/23 - Glassboro at Deptford - a mismatch

11/24 - Gloucester Catholic at Gloucester - enjoyable game

11/26 - Hammonton at St. Joe's - St. Joe's showed why I should rank them #1

12/02 - playoffs @ Rowan (Group 4) - Pennsauken vs Millville. Great QB and receiver for Pennsauaken, Great Running back for Millville!

12/03 - playoffs @ Rowan (Groups 1, 2 and 3) - only watched the Group 1 game as Glassboro overwhelmed Pennsville. Corey Clemnt shattered the South Jersey rushing record.

Update: 12/04/11

Group 1 -  #14 Glassboro beats #12 Pennsville 41-13 - this was another case of Glssboro playing thier best game of the year in the finals.  If teams were ranked based on overcoming adversity, Glassboro would be #1!!!  If teams were ranked based on disappointment, PV would be under consideration for #1.

Group 2 -  #7 West Deptford beats #3 Haddonfield  22-14 -  in another revenge game, the 2nd seed and team from Gloucester County wins.

Group 3 - #6 Timber Creek beats #15 Hammonton 33-7 - good enough to move TC up to #2 and an undefeted season!

Group 4 - #4 Pennsauken beats #5 Millville 55-34 - oustanding offensive game

Central Jersey Group 1 -  #13 Florence loses to Asbury Park 42-18 - good run for the Flashes, but met their match.

Non-Public Group 1 - #1 St. Joe's beats St. Mary 51-0 in a game not worthy of being called a playoff game.

Non-Public Group 2 - #16 Holy Spirit beats #3 Camden Catholic 51-7 in the biggest surprise margin of victory of the playoffs.

My top 5 for each public group: One wild card makes rankings unless one group does not have 5 worth ranking in which case a second wildcard gets ranked. This week there will be 2 wildcards

after 12/03 - revised 12/10

Group 4:

1. Pennsauken (11-1)

Group 3:

1. Timber Creek (12-0) – only undefeated team in Group

1. St. Joseph's (10-0)

2. Holy Spirit (8-3) - one loss was forfeit

3. Camden Catholic (10-1)

4. Holy Cross (7-4)

No others qualify for ranking.

2011 - South Jersey overall rankings 12/04/11

2011 - Final South Jersey overall rankings 12/04/11 - revised 12/10/11

Traditional South Jersey only Remember 5 from each public group and non-publics plus one wildcard. Two wildcards this week because non-publics did not qualify 5 teams.

Undefeated teams are ranked first: Winning Group Championship improves rankings: If I just ranked the 6 Champions: Undefeated Champions - St. Joe's, Timber Creek; one loss Champions - Pennsauken; 2 loss Champions - West Deptford, Glassboro, 3 loss champion (even though one was forfeit) Holy Spirit.

One loss finals losers all deserve top ten ranking: Haddonfield, Millville, Camden Catholic. That leaves one more top ten spot and it goes toWilliamstown. I saw 7 of these teams play.

1. St. Joe's (11-0) – Non-Public #1 - good balance of offense and defense

2. Timber Creek (12-0) - Group 3 #1

3. Pennsauken (11-1) – Group 4 #1 - loss to CC keeps them down

4. West Deptford (11-1) – Group - 2 #1

5. Millville (11-1) - Group 4 #2

6. Haddonfield (11-1) – Group 2 #2

7. Glassboro (10-2) - Group 1 #1

8. Holy Spirit (8-3) – Non-Public #1 – one loss was forfeit

9. Camden Catholic (10-1) - Non-Public #2 - despite the having just one loss, they hit the bottom of the top 9 because of the margin of loss in the finals

10. Williamstown (9-2) - Group 4 #3 - best of the non-finalists

So, the top 10 is the top 3 Non-Publics, 3 Group 4, 1 Group 3, 2 Group 2, 1 Group 1; 2 from Atlantic County, 4 from Camden County, 3 from Gloucester County, 0 from Burlington County, 0 from Salem County, 1 from Cumberland County and 0 from Cape May County.

11. Shawnee (7-3) - Group 4 #4

12. Triton (8-3) – Group 4 #5

13. Washington Twp. (7-4) - Group 4 wildcard

14. Pennsville (10-2) – Group 1 #2 - I honestly think that some Group 1 teams can beat Hammonton after what I saw in the last two games

15. Woodrow Wilson (7-4) – Group 3 #2

So, top 15 is the top 3 Non-Publics, 6 Group 4, 1 Group 3, 2 Group 2, 2 Group 1, 2 from Atlantic County, 6 from Camden County, 4 from Gloucester County, 1 from Burlington County, 1 from Salem County, 1 from Cumberland County and 0 from Cape May County.

16.  Atlantic City (6-4) - Group 4 wildcard - beat Hammonton

23. Cinnaminson (8-3) – Group 2 #4

24. Woodstown (6-4) – Group 2 #5

25. Haddon Heights (8-3) - Group 1 #5

26. Holy Cross (6-4) – Non-Public #4

Update: 10/16/11

1. Pennsauken (5-0) (6-4) did not play – finally have a common game to compare them with Williamstown.

2. St. Joe's (5-0) (10-1) beat Lower Cape May 70-0 – so they make it to my bad boy list of 60+ margins of victory.  Part of being a good coach is knowing how to keep the score down. Learn to take a knee.  I know it is tough when you lead 56-0 at the half and you want your starters to play a full half.   But 70-0 shows no self-control!

3. Williamstown (5-0) (7-3) beat Cherry Hill East 37-21 – should have no problem with an undefeated regular season.

4. Haddonfield (5-0) (11-1) beat Sterling 35-12 – Best in Group 2, but I am dropping them one rank.

21. Paulsboro (5-0) (9-3) beat Sterling 21-7 – a nice win but not like Haddonfield and WD beat them!

Other interesting games:

Overbrook 26, Gateway 0 – goodbye win streak  L

Florence 40, Palmyra 6 – Palmyra is just not the same

Cedar Creek 26, St. Joseph’s-Metuchen 0 – CC gets 2nd win

Salem 27, Camden 12 – Salem sweeps 2 year series

Deptford 14, Highland 2 – Deptford gets 3rd win, but getting 4 for playoff eligibility will be tough

My top 5 for each public group: I have started a rating points system which will be somewhat explained as to how I use it when I post the overall rankings. Possible playoff teams:

This weeks significant/interesting games:

Last year’s ranked teams with this and last year’s record:

1. Holy Spirit (1-1) (12-0) beat Absegami 42-14 – Forfeit hasn’t slowed them down. Should I drop them down because of the forfeit or rank them by their on the field record?

2. Cherokee (2-0) (12-0) beat Eastern 20-17 – Closer than last year (39-14). Does that mean that Cherokee is down or Eastern is up or both. Stay tuned!

So they both continue their on the field win streaks!
