2012 rankings

Rankings are based on overall record and a power point system to NJSIAA with a small margin of victory factor added (so don’t try figuring out my system, but you can start with NJSIAA style power points and remember that I added some more). Since I consider the power points to have an unknown margin of error, not all rankings will be exactly by points. A superior record or superior competition may outscore power points. Keep in mind that teams that advance further gain more points, but I made an adjustment if a Champion only had 2 playoff games.

Group 1:

1. Penns Grove (12-0) – 308 power points – Group 1 South Champion

2. Florence (11-1) – 282 – Group 1 Central Champion

3. Woodbury – (10-2) – 262

4. Glassboro – (9-2) – 227

Possible wildcard:

5. Paulsboro (7-4) - 200

Group 2:

1. West Deptford (12-0) – 326 power points – Group 2 South Champion

2. Cedar Creek (10-2) – 245

3. Delran – (9-2) – 214

4. Woodstown – (7-4) – 202

Group 3: Here’s where I go against the point system and favor overall record:

1. Delsea (11-1) – 269 power points – Group 3 South Champion

2. Burlington Twp. (8-3) – 212

3. Northern Burlington – (7-5) – 226

4. Bridgeton – (6-5) – 143

Group 4:

1. Timber Creek (10-2) – 307 power points – Group 4 South Champion

2. Kingsway (8-4) – 203

3. Moorestown – (6-4) – 186

4. Shawnee – (6-5) – 157

Group 4:

1. Williamstown (12-0) – 394 power points – Group 5 South Champion

2. Atlantic City (8-3) – 231

3. Eastern (7-4) – 214

4. Washington Twp. (7-3) – 189

Possible wildcards:

5. Millville (6-4) – 188

6. Cherokee (6-4) - 182

Non-Publics:

1. St. Joe’s (10-1) – 335 power points – Group 1 Champion

2. St. Augustine (8-2) – 251

3. Holy Spirit – (8-4) – 218 – Group 2 Champion

4. Camden Catholic – (7-4) – 186

Possible wildcards:

5. Holy Cross (6-4) – 184

6. Paul VI (6-4) - 156

Overall rankings: Power points is just a consideration for “when in doubt”.

St. Joe’s slips in with the undefeateds

1. Williamstown (12-0) – 394 power points – Group 5 South Champion

2. St. Joe’s (10-1) – 335 power points – Non-Public Group 1 Champion

3. West Deptford (12-0) – 326 power points – Group 2 South Champion

4. Penns Grove (12-0) – 308 power points – Group 1 South Champion

5. Timber Creek (10-2) – 307 power points – Group 4 South Champion – the one point difference with PG does not matter – the 2 losses do!  This is a very high ranking for a 2 loss team!

6. Delsea (11-1) – 269 power points – Group 3 South Champion

7. Atlantic City (8-3) – 231 – breaking away from my point system and going with common sense! But I will not rank them above a team with 2 fewer losses.  This is an extremely high ranking for a 3 loss team!

8. St. Augustine (8-2) – 251

9. Cedar Creek (10-2) – 245

10. Florence (11-1) – 282 – Group 1 Central Champion – have to put them ahead of Delran despite loss based on overall achievement

So, the one loss teams all made the top 10. Group 5’s get better consideration in 2nd ten.

11. Eastern (7-4) – 214 - breaking my “2 more losses rule” as I just can’t push them any lower

12. Washington Twp. (7-3) – 189

13. Burlington Twp. (8-3) – 212 –tougher schedule than Delran, so 2 points doesn’t matter. Loss in playoffs hurts! Top ten in ability, but not in record.

14. Delran – (9-2) – 214

15. Holy Spirit – (8-4) – 218 – Non-Public Group 2 Champion and shows that a 4 loss team can deserve to be ranked, so a bunch of 4 loss teams follow.

16. Millville (6-4) – 188

17. Camden Catholic – (7-4) – 186

18. Cherokee (6-4) – 182

19. Kingsway (8-4) – 203

20. Moorestown – (6-4) – 186

Shawnee starts the last 6 as they are better than their record – tough to put a 6-5 team in the rankings!

21. Shawnee – (6-5) – 157

22. Woodbury – (10-2) – 262

23. Glassboro – (9-2) – 227 – I was very surprised with this point total (and Woodbury’s), but only 2 teams on schedule did not make playoffs! Also, only one point on the field from being in Woodbury’s spot! But, I just can’t rank them that high. Perhaps I need to give more credit for Group # than the state does.

24. Northern Burlington – (7-5) – 226 –nice point total, but 5 losses hurts

25. Woodstown – (7-4) – 202

26. Bridgeton – (6-5) – 143 - made rankings only due to weak Group 2 field, so they finish it off

NOTE:  I have not yet updated playoff scores and other data on this blog and my Bulldog blog.  Will do so soon.
