There is also a 103-0 game - Bordentown Manual Training over Logan Athletic Club (Phila.) in 1922. I am not sure whether to count them as high schools.

Learn when to "take a knee".

Sometimes such scores "can't be helped" as stuff happens, but there are times when you just run toward the tackler and go down. Yes, the 2nd and 3rd string want to score, too. BUT what was the score when you put them in and were you shuffling players in and out early in the game? If the margin is 50 or higher, the coach will hear me yell "That's enough coach!"

Instruct the players to fair catch the punt or let it roll.

Tell them to run interceptions out of bounds (clock is running anyway).

Which is more important?:  Freshman gets to score or Freshman learns how to treat opponents with respect.

It depends on what kind of values you carry!

Only 5 times has neither appeared in playoffs!

Paulsboro has made 29 appearances = 78.38% of the time

Glassboro has appeared in the playoffs 28 times (not counting 1974 "declared champion") = 75.67% of the time

They have both been in the playoffs 24 times = 64.86% of the time

Paulsboro is 16-7 in championship games

Glassboro is 9-8 in championship games + 1 championship in 1974 when they were "declared" champions because there were no other qualifiers in the system used that year.
Combined they have been in the finals 40 times which makes 54.05% of the finalists.

Combined, they have won 25 championships (26 counting 1974), which gives them 67.57 % of all on-the-field championships. This does not include Glassboro's "declared championship". If you add Woodbury's 6 championships (Woodbury is 6-2 in championship games and has appeared in the playoffs 15 times), then Gloucester County has all but 6 Championships - Burlington Twp. (2), Palmyra, Florence and Schalick (2) - for 83.78% (84.21% if you count 1974).

Paulsboro is 7-3 against Glassboro in championship games

Paulsboro is 3-3 against Glassboro in semi-finals

It's a BORO thing - you wouldn't understand!

Let me know if I goofed!

11/26 - Hammonton at St. Joe's - St. Joe's showed why I should rank them #1

12/02 - playoffs @ Rowan (Group 4) - Pennsauken vs Millville. Great QB and receiver for Pennsauaken, Great Running back for Millville!

12/03 - playoffs @ Rowan (Groups 1, 2 and 3) - only watched the Group 1 game as Glassboro overwhelmed Pennsville. Corey Clemnt shattered the South Jersey rushing record.

Update: 12/04/11

Group 1 -  #14 Glassboro beats #12 Pennsville 41-13 - this was another case of Glssboro playing thier best game of the year in the finals.  If teams were ranked based on overcoming adversity, Glassboro would be #1!!!  If teams were ranked based on disappointment, PV would be under consideration for #1.

Group 2 -  #7 West Deptford beats #3 Haddonfield  22-14 -  in another revenge game, the 2nd seed and team from Gloucester County wins.

Group 3 - #6 Timber Creek beats #15 Hammonton 33-7 - good enough to move TC up to #2 and an undefeted season!

Group 4 - #4 Pennsauken beats #5 Millville 55-34 - oustanding offensive game

Central Jersey Group 1 -  #13 Florence loses to Asbury Park 42-18 - good run for the Flashes, but met their match.

Non-Public Group 1 - #1 St. Joe's beats St. Mary 51-0 in a game not worthy of being called a playoff game.

Non-Public Group 2 - #16 Holy Spirit beats #3 Camden Catholic 51-7 in the biggest surprise margin of victory of the playoffs.

My top 5 for each public group: One wild card makes rankings unless one group does not have 5 worth ranking in which case a second wildcard gets ranked. This week there will be 2 wildcards

after 12/03 - revised 12/10

Group 4:

1. Pennsauken (11-1)

2. Millville (11-1)

3. Williamstown (8-2)

4. Shawnee (7-3)

5. Triton (8-3)

Possible wildcards: (2 may get in this week)

Washington Twp. (7-4)

Atlantic City (6-4)

Group 3:

1. Timber Creek (12-0) – only undefeated team in Group

2. Woodrow Wilson (7-4)

3. Hammonton (9-3) – losses are to Group 4 team, #1 team and Group Champion, but no offense in final games.

4. Moorestown (7-4)

5. Northern Burlington (9-2) – feel apart in semi’s!

Possible wildcard

Burlington Twp. (7-3)

Group 2:

1. West Deptford (11-1)

2. Haddonfield (11-1)

3. Bridgeton (6-4)

4. Cinnaminson (8-3)

5. Woodstown (6-4)

Group 1:

1. Glassboro (10-2)

2. Pennsville (10-2)

3.  Penns Grove (7-4) – beat #1 and #2

4. Florence (10-2)

5. Haddon Heights (8-3)

Non-Publics (all together): this is easy as #1 beat #2 which beat #3 which beat #4

1. St. Joseph's (10-0)

2. Holy Spirit (8-3) - one loss was forfeit

3. Camden Catholic (10-1)

4. Holy Cross (7-4)

No others qualify for ranking.

2011 - South Jersey overall rankings 12/04/11

2011 - Final South Jersey overall rankings 12/04/11 - revised 12/10/11

Traditional South Jersey only Remember 5 from each public group and non-publics plus one wildcard. Two wildcards this week because non-publics did not qualify 5 teams.

Undefeated teams are ranked first: Winning Group Championship improves rankings: If I just ranked the 6 Champions: Undefeated Champions - St. Joe's, Timber Creek; one loss Champions - Pennsauken; 2 loss Champions - West Deptford, Glassboro, 3 loss champion (even though one was forfeit) Holy Spirit.

One loss finals losers all deserve top ten ranking: Haddonfield, Millville, Camden Catholic. That leaves one more top ten spot and it goes toWilliamstown. I saw 7 of these teams play.

1. St. Joe's (11-0) – Non-Public #1 - good balance of offense and defense

2. Timber Creek (12-0) - Group 3 #1

3. Pennsauken (11-1) – Group 4 #1 - loss to CC keeps them down

4. West Deptford (11-1) – Group - 2 #1

5. Millville (11-1) - Group 4 #2

6. Haddonfield (11-1) – Group 2 #2

7. Glassboro (10-2) - Group 1 #1

8. Holy Spirit (8-3) – Non-Public #1 – one loss was forfeit

9. Camden Catholic (10-1) - Non-Public #2 - despite the having just one loss, they hit the bottom of the top 9 because of the margin of loss in the finals

10. Williamstown (9-2) - Group 4 #3 - best of the non-finalists

So, the top 10 is the top 3 Non-Publics, 3 Group 4, 1 Group 3, 2 Group 2, 1 Group 1; 2 from Atlantic County, 4 from Camden County, 3 from Gloucester County, 0 from Burlington County, 0 from Salem County, 1 from Cumberland County and 0 from Cape May County.

11. Shawnee (7-3) - Group 4 #4

12. Triton (8-3) – Group 4 #5

13. Washington Twp. (7-4) - Group 4 wildcard

14. Pennsville (10-2) – Group 1 #2 - I honestly think that some Group 1 teams can beat Hammonton after what I saw in the last two games

15. Woodrow Wilson (7-4) – Group 3 #2

So, top 15 is the top 3 Non-Publics, 6 Group 4, 1 Group 3, 2 Group 2, 2 Group 1, 2 from Atlantic County, 6 from Camden County, 4 from Gloucester County, 1 from Burlington County, 1 from Salem County, 1 from Cumberland County and 0 from Cape May County.

16.  Atlantic City (6-4) - Group 4 wildcard - beat Hammonton

17.  Penns Grove (7-4) - Group 1 #3

18. Hammonton (9-3) - Group 3 #2

19. Bridgeton (6-4)– Group 2 #3

20. Moorestown (6-4) - Group 3 #4

21. Northern Burlington (8-2) – Group 3 #5

22. Florence (10-2) - Group 1 #4

23. Cinnaminson (8-3) – Group 2 #4

24. Woodstown (6-4) – Group 2 #5

25. Haddon Heights (8-3) - Group 1 #5

26. Holy Cross (6-4) – Non-Public #4

Let me know of any typos please! I am half blind (should be a ref if I didn't have bad knees) and have fumble fingers when I type!

4. Camden Catholic (10-0) beat Paul VI 35-21 – top seed in Non-Public Group 2

Update: 10/16/11

This week’s significant/interesting games:

Ranked teams with this and last year’s record:

1. Pennsauken (5-0) (6-4) did not play – finally have a common game to compare them with Williamstown.

2. St. Joe's (5-0) (10-1) beat Lower Cape May 70-0 – so they make it to my bad boy list of 60+ margins of victory.  Part of being a good coach is knowing how to keep the score down. Learn to take a knee.  I know it is tough when you lead 56-0 at the half and you want your starters to play a full half.   But 70-0 shows no self-control!

3. Williamstown (5-0) (7-3) beat Cherry Hill East 37-21 – should have no problem with an undefeated regular season.

4. Haddonfield (5-0) (11-1) beat Sterling 35-12 – Best in Group 2, but I am dropping them one rank.

5. Hammonton (4-0) (7-4) beat Ocean City 44-13 – big game next week!.

6. Timber Creek (5-0) (5-5) beat Woodrow Wilson 34-13 – nice win

7. Camden Catholic (5-0) (5-5) Delsea 14-7 – almost lost and I will be lowering their ranking as seeing them in person did not impress me.

8. Shawnee (4-1) (6-4) did not play

9. Millville (5-0) (6-4) beat Absegami 49-34 – should have undefeated regular season.

10. Atlantic City (4-1) (7-4) lost to Egg Harbor Twp. 16-13 – may only win one more game

11. West Deptford (3-1) (11-1) beat Haddon Heights 49-6 – easily handled a decent team!

12. Triton (4-1) (3-7) did not play

13. Woodrow Wilson (4-1) (6-4) lost to Timber Creek 34-13 – finally ran into real competition!

14. Moorestown (4-2) (7-3) beat Kingsway 31-0 – a game that clearly demonstrated the difference in level of play!

15. Burlington Twp. (4-2) lost to Northern Burlington 27-23 – I must have jinxed them by moving them up 2 weeks ago!  Now they continue to drop down!

16. Pennsville (5-0) (9-2) did not play – rolling towards eventual showdowns with Glassboro and Penns Grove.

17. Cinnaminson (5-1) (5-5) beat Maple Shade 42-21 – don’t overlook this team!

19. Delran (3-2) (5-5) lost to Willingboro 34-20 – Delran is sinking!

20. Holy Spirit (3-2) (12-0) beat Mainland 28-14 – one loss is a forfeit, but wins are not as impressive as last year and looked disorganized against St. Joe’s.  (I could write an essay on what I observed.)

21. Paulsboro (5-0) (9-3) beat Sterling 21-7 – a nice win but not like Haddonfield and WD beat them!

22. Penns Grove (4-1) (8-1) beat Wildwood 44-0 – a game they won 64-0 last year!

23. Glassboro (4-1) (10-2) did not play

24. New Egypt (4-1 (8-3) lost to Allentown 31-26 – Did I jinx them by putting them in the rankings?

25. Holy Cross (3-2) (8-2) did not play

26. Paul VI (2-3) (8-2) lost to Eastern 23-7 – Non-Publics might not have 5 teams to rank!

Other interesting games:

Overbrook 26, Gateway 0 – goodbye win streak  L

Florence 40, Palmyra 6 – Palmyra is just not the same

Cedar Creek 26, St. Joseph’s-Metuchen 0 – CC gets 2nd win

Salem 27, Camden 12 – Salem sweeps 2 year series

Deptford 14, Highland 2 – Deptford gets 3rd win, but getting 4 for playoff eligibility will be tough

My top 5 for each public group: I have started a rating points system which will be somewhat explained as to how I use it when I post the overall rankings. Possible wildcards (no more than 2 per Group) have higher ratings points than at least one top 5 from another Group. The one with the highest rating will get the wildcard.
