This weeks significant/interesting games:

Last year’s ranked teams with this and last year’s record:

1. Holy Spirit (1-1) (12-0) beat Absegami 42-14 – Forfeit hasn’t slowed them down. Should I drop them down because of the forfeit or rank them by their on the field record?

2. Cherokee (2-0) (12-0) beat Eastern 20-17 – Closer than last year (39-14). Does that mean that Cherokee is down or Eastern is up or both. Stay tuned!

So they both continue their on the field win streaks!

3. St. Joe's (2-0) (10-1) beat Middle Twp. 51-0 – 45-0 at the half. St. Joe’s deserves a high ranking

7. Delsea (0-2) (10-2) lost to Timber Creek (2-0) (5-5) 40-7 – season is starting out opposite than expected. This why I rank by on the field results and not speculation. You cannot depend on pre-season polls. The question is how far up do I move Timer Creek?

8. Oakcrest (1-1 ) (9-3) lost to Millville 33-7 – two straight big losses on the field, but they have a forfeit win.

9. Penns Grove (2-0) (8-1) beat Gloucester 42-65 – Gloucester scored first and then PG controlled the game

10. Willingboro (1-0) (10-1) did not play

 4. Haddonfield (11-1) opens next week

11. Paul VI (8-2) lost to Moorestown 28-12 – Big showdown with opposite result from last year

12. Paulsboro (9-3) opens next week vs. Woodbury – game will mean a lot in terms of seeding later

13. Woodbury (9-2) opens next week vs. Paulsboro – early showdown

14. Hammonton (7-4) beat Mainland 23-7 – special game with expected result

15. Atlantic City (7-4) beat St. Augustine 13-9 – AC has a good team again

16. Winslow Twp. (7-4) lost to Washington Twp. 42-0 - nice for one Township and horrible start for the other

17. Egg Harbor Township (6-5) lost to Absegami 20-6 – Gami won last year also

18. Williamstown (7-3) beat Eastern 34-13 – good start for Williamstown

19. Pennsville (9-2) beat Pitman 49-0 – Too teams going opposite directions

20. Holy Cross (8-2) beat Florence 24-21 – both teams should have winning seasons

21. Moorestown (7-3) beat Paul VI 28-12 – This separated the men from the boys! Won by Paul VI last year!

22. Cumberland (7-3) lost to Timber Creek 19-0 – Cumberland lost this one last year but still had good record at the end.

23. Millville (6-4) beat Middle Twp. 47-12 – Millville hoping for another winning season

24. Camden Catholic (5-5) plays Gloucester Catholic today – Should be no problem for CC

25. Camden (6-4) beat Gloucester Catholic 55-6. GC will obviously be my lowest ranked Non-Public, but where will I place CC in a highly competitive field?

26. Lower Cape May (8-3) beat Cedar Creek 20-13 - first game for Cedar Creek!

Other interesting games:

New Egypt 24, Maple Shade 12 – NE should be a playoff team again

Robbinsville 14, Palmyra 7 –ouch! Palmyra can’t afford loses without a strong power point schedule

Schalick beat Clayton 38-6 – nothing unusual about this result

Woodstown 40, Gloucester 20 – interesting result and and nice win for the Woodies. Will this be a down year for the Lions?

Burlington City 55, Riverside 20 – no contest!

Bridgeton 54, Pleasantville 7 – Bridgeton may surprise some teams this year!

Pemberton 24, Ewing 6

Burlington Twp. 36, Delran 12

Seneca 35, Cherry Hill West 12 – predictable outcome

Vineland 44, Ocean City 27 – Vineland started off on a win streak last year

Woodrow Wilson 31, Deptford 6 – WW looking good while Deptford continues to struggle

Northern Burlington lost to Princeton 20-14. Princeton was 0-10 last year!

Cherry Hill East 35, Clearview 0 – East looks good, but what about THE VIEW? Will this be a long season for them?

Pennsauken 35, Shawnee 28 – early showdown settled by only one score

10/02: Woodrow Wilson at Gloucester Catholic - Wilson will compete with camden for Division title. Good at the skill positions but needs more line work.

10/30: Salem at Glassboro (Homecoming) (with Rowan Homecoming across the street)

11/05: Clearview at Cumberland - Cumberland clearly the better team and I am surprised they lost so badly to Kingsway!

11/06: Glassboro at Camden - strategy error cost the Bulldogs

2010 - South Jersey overall rankings - Final - 12/05/10

2010 - South Jersey overall rankings 12/05/10

Traditional South Jersey only!!!!

My rules: NOTICE THE CHANGES!

1. No more than 6 from any one group or from all Non-Publics - the top 5 from each Group and one wildcard for 26 teams. Group 4 gets the wildcard again this week.

2. I have my own “ratings points” system (similar to power points, but not the same) and it is used to determine rankings of teams with same records that have not met on the field. The ratings have a small factor for large victories which equal having beat an opponent with one more win and the same bonus for an OT loss. There is a much bigger factor for the Group size of the opponent! Beating or losing to a team one Group higher equals adding one win to their record, so if a Group 1 team beats or loses to a Group 2 team with a 5-5 record, then it is like beating a Group 1 team with a 6-4 record. Likewise if a Group 2 team beats a Group 1 team with a 5-5 record, it is like beating a Group 2 team with a 4-6 record.

3. Playoff wins/losses count for more ratings points than regular season wins/losses, so teams advance higher in rankings the deeper they go into the playoffs. I also give more credit for a consolation game win as in most cases it shows the strength against a team of almost equal record from another conference. Although I would like to find a way to give more credit for playing in a tougher conference, this is a start.

4. If teams have same wins/losses and have met on the field, then the result of that game counts. If they met twice and split, then ratings points count. If a 3rd team with same record is between them in ratings points, then I revert to a “gut feeling” as to where to put the 3rd team.

5. In final rankings, no team can be ranked above a team that has 1 more win/1 less loss unless
ratings points are 10% higher and no team can be ranked above a team that has 2 more wins/2 less losses unless ratings points are 25% higher. If a team has 1 less win and same number of losses or same number of wins and 1 more loss, the factor is 5%, However if the two teams have met on the field then the winner may be ranked higher (I have to make that tough call on a “gut feeling”). Similar factors are used for other win/loss variations.

6. Teams that are disqualified from playoffs receive points as if they were in playoffs and beat lower seeded teams and lost to higher seeded teams (with an exception if the higher seeded team was upset by the team that took the disqualified team’s seed). Teams with byes get credit for a win also. Teams disqualified from or not participating in consolations receive same points earned by the team that I speculate played their “would have been” opponent. So, there are assumed wins and losses to be sure that every team has at least a 10 game rating. Playoff teams who made it to the second round have an advantage as they have 11 or 12 games. This ranks them higher, so playoff survival is a big factor and all champions should normally be in the final top ten.

7. Forfeits do not help/hurt opponents. On the field counts, but a small factor (as per rule #2) is given to the team that received the forfeit win and the team that forfeited cannot receive large victory points! If the state used my system, teams that received forfeit wins would not be helped making the playoffs and the teams that beat the forfeiting team would not be punished.

8. Once playoffs begin, I give credit to teams in playoffs in determining their ratings points and that affects their rankings. In all cases I assumed a higher seeded team wins in playoffs, so they can move up or down if the lower seed wins.

9. Beginning in 2011, the ratings will be based on games within the last year. When a team plays it’s first game, the previous year’s game against same opponent no longer counts (or the opponent that was replaced).

All undefeated and one loss teams are in the top 10 as there are only 7. All Group Champions are in the top 6.

1. Holy Spirit (12-0) – Non-Public #1 – way ahead in ratings points if they win the finals.

2. Cherokee (12-0) – Group 4 #1

That ends the undefeated - many of the teams below could beat or lose to a higher ranked team “on any given day”. 5 of the 8 teams (1 Group 1, 2 Group 2, 2 Group 3, 1 Group 4 and 2 Non-Public) I saw Thanksgiving weekend just didn’t seem to have the speed that I see in the top 5 Group 1 teams (that I see frequently) and a couple of Group 2 teams. So, anybody’s rankings are fickle as anything can happen when good teams meet!

3. St. Joe's (10-1) – Non-Public #2 – beat Hammonton more convincingly than Delsea, which helped prove my ratings points system – loss was by 35 points

4. Haddonfield (11-1) – Group 2 #1 – loss was by 3 points and they avenged it

5. West Deptford (11-1) – Group - 2 #2 – loss was by 8 points and they had previously beat that team – highest ranked 1 loss team without a championship – closest loss of Finals losers

6. Glassboro (10-2) - Group 1 #1 – Can’t put them higher with 2 losses – looked very good in finals as they were finally healthy, but overall season counts – losses were by a total of 10 points and they avenged one of the losses – they were ready for anybody in the finals - best line play of season! Two 1000+ yds. running backs!

7. Delsea (10-2) – Group 3 #1 – losses were by 69 points and they avenged one of them – highest ranked 2 loss team without a championship

8. Oakcrest (9-3) – Group 4 #2 – losses were by 87 points

9. Penns Grove (8-1) - Group 1 #2 – best team not in playoffs – a successful 2 point conversion (which they thought they made, but didn’t cry about) in game 1 and a Group Championship (for an undefeated season) would have moved them to #3!

10. Willingboro (10-1) – Group 2 #3 – loss was by 11 points

So, the top 10 is the top 2 Non-Publics, 2 Group 4, 1 Group 3, 3 Group 2 and 2 Group 1. 3 from Atlantic County, 3 from Gloucester County, 2 from Burlington County, 1 from Camden County and 1 from Salem County. Each group has their top 2 except for Group 3.

That ends the 1 loss teams, so they all made the top 10! All 9 finalists are in the top 12.

11. Paul VI (8-2) - Non-Public #3 - misfortune of being in toughest Group in state – big loss to Lenape keeps them out of top 10.

12. Paulsboro (9-3) - Group 1 #3 – the only finalist that I did not place at the top.

13. Woodbury (9-2) - Group 1 #4 – still a strong team for Group 1 and can beat many teams from bigger Groups! Only below Paulsboro because the playoffs count for more than the regular season.

The next 4 could be in order. They are stron teams that could probably beat several teams above them, but with 4 or 5 losses, they can’t be higher than this. AC has the most ratings points, but lost to Hammonton which lost to EHT which lost to AC. All of the next 4 have a lot of ratings points but not enough to jump the 2 loss teams above them as per rule #5. They just all have too many losses to be ranked higher. Hammonton and AC outrank EHT with better win-loss records and Hammonton beat AC. This is where the “gut feeling” is used to place Winslow.

14. Hammonton (7-4) - Group 3 #2 - with 4 losses they land here.

15. Atlantic City (7-4) - Group 4 #3

So, the top 15 is the top 3 Non-Publics, 3 from Group 4, 2 from Group 3, 3 from Group 2 and 4 from Group 1. 5 from Gloucester County, 5 from Atlantic County, 2 from Burlington, 2 from Camden County and 1 from Salem County. Each group has their top 3 except for Group 3 and they are right below.

16. Winslow Twp. (7-4) – Group 3 #3

17. Egg Harbor Township (6-5) – Group 4 #4 – despite 5 losses they had a ton of ratings points!

18. Williamstown (7-3) - Group 4 #5

Weak schedules hurt the next 2 in their ratings

19. Pennsville (9-2) – Group 1 #5 – looked very good until 2nd half of semi-final game and blown out on T-Day – edged out Holy Cross by .25 in my ratings points

20. Holy Cross (8-2) - Non-Public #4 – last of the 2 loss teams

21. Moorestown (7-3) - Group 3 #4

22. Cumberland (7-3) – Group 3 #5

23. Millville (6-4) – Group 4 wildcard

24. Camden Catholic (5-5) - Non-Public #5 – 8th seed

25. Camden (6-4) Group 2 #5

26. Lower Cape May (8-3) - Group 2 #5

8-3 team not under consideration: New Egypt

7-3 team not under consideration: Palmyra

Mainland would be 7-3 if not for forfeits, but would still not be ranked

Let me know of any typos please! I am half blind (should be a ref if I didn't have bad knees) and have fumble fingers when I type!

1. Glassboro (10-2)

2. Delsea (10-2)

3. Penns Grove (8-1)

4. Pennsville (9-2)

5. Williamstown (7-3) – now gets Township on T-day

6. Cumberland (7-3)

7. Kingsway (6-4) – beat Cumberland, but Cumberland came on strong at end. Cumberland gets edge with 1 more victory and 0.25 more “ratings points” (as explained in overall rankings and smallest margin between any 2 teams). Toughest call in all of my rankings!

2010 - Gloucester County Rankings - Final - 12/05/10

7. Kingsway (6-4)

8. Clearview (4-6) – despite losing to Washington Township, Clearview had a better overall season and outpointed WT by 5.25 “ratings points” (as explained in the overall SJ rankings). You can also look at it as Clearview beat Winslow and Cherry Hill East which both beat Township which beat the View.

9. Washington Twp. (3-7)

10. Deptford (3-7)

11. Pitman (5-5)

12. Gateway (1-9)

13. Clayton (1-9)

Update: 12/05/10

This weeks significant/interesting games: All Playoff Finals!

The undefeated:

Holy Spirit 14, St. Joe’s – Montvale 13 - Spirit showed me why I should rank them on top as they beat a perennial state power. This is not to say that others could not have done the same, but they did it and deserve credit.

Cherokee 33, Oakcrest 6 – Crest scored late to avoid shutout

The one loss teams:

Haddonfield 16, West Deptford 8 – Haddonfield pulls the upset and gives Camden County 1 champion

St. Joe’s 40, St. Mary’s 0 – St. Joe’s really had no competition in this group! Atlantic County has 2 champions.

Two loss teams:

Lacey Twp. 56, Delsea 7

Glassboro 36, Paulsboro 0 – Gloucester County has 1 champion

Three loss teams:

Oakcrest mentioned above

Paulsboro mentioned above

My top 5 for each public group: I have started a rating points system which is somewhat explained as to how I use it in the overall rankings. Possible wildcards (no more than 2 per Group) have higher ratings points than at least one top 5 from another Group. The one with the highest rating will get the wildcard.

(after Saturday 12/04)

Group 4:

1. Cherokee (12-0)

2. Oakcrest (9-3)

3. Atlantic City (7-4)

4. Egg Harbor Township (6-5)

5. Williamstown (7-3)

Possible wildcards:

Millville (6-4)

Shawnee (6-4)

Group 3:

1. Delsea (10-2)

2. Hammonton (7-4)

3. Winslow Twp. (7-4)

4. Moorestown (7-3)

5. Cumberland (7-3)

Possible wildcards:

Kingsway (6-4)

Woodrow Wilson (6-4)

Lacey Twp. is favored to win the playoffs.

Group 2:

1. Haddonfield (11-1)

2. West Deptford (11-1)

3. Willingboro (10-1)

4. Camden (6-4)

5. Lower Cape May (7-3)

Group 1: Any of the top 3 could end up my final #1

1. Glassboro (10-2) – bad decision on 4th down cost them game against Group 2 playoff team – one win against a top 4 seed – nice 1st round win and exciting 2nd round come from behind win

2. Penns Grove (8-1) - only loss to Glassboro (by 1 point) and has hammered everybody since – no wins against a top 4 seed – best team not in playoffs – remember that the blowouts are due to not having enough players to put in 3rd string. Very good team with limited number of players – loss to NJSIAA rules hurts – Salem County Champion!

3. Paulsboro (9-3)

4. Woodbury (9-2)

5. Pennsville (9-2)

New Egypt (8-3) just would not be able to hang with the above teams, but they were in the Central semi-finals.

Glassboro and Paulsboro avenged regular season losses on their way to the finals.

Non-Publics (all together):

1. Holy Spirit (12-0)

2. St. Joseph's (10-1)

3. Paul VI (8-2)

4. Holy Cross (8-2)

5. Camden Catholic (5-5)

Gloucester Catholic, St. Augustine and Bishop Eustace were not able to contend for these rankings this year.

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Update: 11/28/10

This weeks significant/interesting games:

The undefeated:

Cherokee 19, Seneca 17 – Cherokee survives and Seneca almost beat them again.

Holy Spirit 33, Atlantic City 18 - Spirit showed me why I should rank them on top and I’ll be moving them back to #1. I am also working on my own rating system (similar to power points) and no matter how I play with it, they end up on top.

West Deptford 56, Paulsboro 0 –although Paulsboro had 15 suspended players, this was still and overwhelming win. WD is an excellent team!

The one loss teams:

Delsea has no Thanksgiving game

St. Joe’s 20, Hammonton 8 – game tied going into the 4th!

Haddonfield 27, Haddon Heights 0 as they prepare for the finals

Penns Grove 44, Pennsville 7 - a lot of controversy about the last TD, but no one seems to want to point out that PV came off of a tough game 4 days earlier, while PG was well rested. I still think that PG would have won had they both played last week, but it would have been closer.

Willingboro 35 Holy Cross 34 – OT – Great game!

Two loss teams:

Oakcrest 14, Absegami 13 – Oakcrest survives this week by winning their 8th in a row and heads to the finals.

Glassboro 19, Deptford 7 – Easy first half led to less enthusiasm in the second half as the BORO looks ahead to playing another BORO

Paul VI 13, Camden Catholic 0 – Paul VI had no plans to loss 3 in a row and took a 0-0 after 3 quarters game and came out to win in the 4th.

Woodbury 61, Gateway 0 - so Woodbury gets added to my bad boy list of 60+ point winners by playing a team that was just not on their level. I hope Gateway can rebound a little next year.

Holy Cross mentioned above

Paulsboro mentioned above

Pennsville mentioned above

3 loss teams:

Williamstown 47, Washington Twp. 21 – Williamstown ends on a positive note

Moorestown did not have a T-Day game

Lower Cape May 30, Middle Twp. 6 – although they did not beat any really good teams, LCM has to be happy with the improvement

The 3 loss teams not to have made my rankings:

Cumberland 27, Schalick 23

New Egypt 13, Bordentown 7

Palmyra 42, Burlington City 21

4 loss teams:

Hammonton mentioned above

Winslow Twp. 27, Eastern 7 – the best of the 4 loss teams and will be ranked above the 3 loss teams unless Hammonton wins tomorrow.

Bishop Eustace 12, Pennsauken 7 – Pennsauken drops to 4 losses and BE gets their 4th win

Atlantic City mentioned above

Burlington Twp. did not have a T-day game

4 loss teams not to have made my rankings:

Schalick mentioned above

Florence 60, Riverside 6

Collingswood 39, Sterling 0

Kingsway 40, Clearview 29

Camden 26, Woodrow Wilson 20 – both teams end with 4 losses

Shawnee 31, Lenape 14

Millville 28, Vineland 0 – as Millville ends up with 4 losses and Vineland with 5

Rancocas Valley 24, Pemberton 6

5 loss teams:

Mainland 17, Egg Harbor Twp. 0 as EHT ends up 6-5 (Mainland without forfeits would have been 7-3 instead of 3-7)

Camden Catholic mentioned above:

Vineland mentioned above

Triton 36, Timber Creek 14 - as TC drops to 5 losses

Delran 18, Cinnaminson 15 – as both teams end up 5-5

Mainland 23, Bridgeton 7 – as Bridgeton ends up 4-5

Salem 14, Woodstown 8

Audubon 54, Haddon Twp. 7

Pitman 43, Clayton 12 – an example of a team that is happy to be 5-5

My top 5 for each public group: I have started a rating points system which will be somewhat explained as to how I use it when I post the overall rankings. Possible wildcards (no more than 2 per Group) have higher ratings points than at least one top 5 from another Group. The one with the highest rating will get the wildcard.

(after Thursday 11/25)

Group 4: The top 2 will still be the top2 no matter who wins in the finals

1. Cherokee (11-0)

2. Oakcrest (9-2)

3. Atlantic City (7-4)

4. Egg Harbor Township (6-5)

5. Williamstown (7-3)

Possible wildcards:

Millville (6-4)

Shawnee (6-4)

Group 3: This will not change regardless of the finals

1. Delsea (10-1)

2. Hammonton (7-4)

3. Winslow Twp. (7-4)

4. Moorestown (7-3)

5. Cumberland (7-3)

Possible wildcards:

Kingsway (6-4)

Woodrow Wilson (6-4)

Lacey Twp. is favored to win the playoffs.

Group 2: The top 2 and the top 2 no matter who wins in finals

1. West Deptford (10-0) - plays Friday night

2. Haddonfield (10-1)

3. Willingboro (9-1)

4. Camden (6-4) - win over Glassboro puts them above LCM, but Group belongs to the top 3 and these 2 will be at the bottom of my overall Top 26.

5. Lower Cape May (7-3)

Group 1: Any of the top 3 could end up my final #1

1. Glassboro (9-2) – bad decision on 4th down cost them game against Group 2 playoff team – one win against a top 4 seed – nice 1st round win and exciting 2nd round come from behind win

3. Paulsboro (9-2)

4. Woodbury (9-2)

5. Pennsville (9-2)

New Egypt (8-3) just would not be able to hang with the above teams, but they were in the Central semi-finals.

Glassboro and Paulsboro avenged regular season losses and will meet in finals.

Non-Publics (all together): This will not change regardless of the finals

1. Holy Spirit (11-0)

2. St. Joseph's (9-1)

3. Paul VI (8-2)

4. Holy Cross (8-2)

5. Camden Catholic (5-5)

Gloucester Catholic, St. Augustine and Bishop Eustace do not seem to be able to contend for these rankings.

St. Joe’s and Holy Spirit survive to head to different finals – will be easier for St. Joe’s!

Holy Spirit should have an interesting final against St. Joe’s of Montvale (which easily handled CC in opening round)

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Update: 11/21/10

This weeks significant/interesting games:

Group 4 Playoffs:

Cherokee 28, Egg Harbor Twp. 7 – Cherokee keeps rolling and is the only survivor form Burlington County

Oakcrest 31, Atlantic City 14 – Oakcrest keeps moving up and AC keeps moving down

Group 3 Playoffs:

Lacey Twp. 34, Winslow Twp. 14 – Winslow, the team of upsets cannot upset this team!

Delsea 16, Hammonton 14 – after a missed 2 point attempt almost cost them the game, a FG wins it for Delsea.

Group 2 Playoffs:

West Deptford 56, Barnegat 7 – WD just too much for Barnegat – Barnegat probably gaining a great dislike for trips to Gloucester County!

Haddonfield 38, Willingboro 27 – 3 straight scores in 2nd half wins it for the Haddons and another Burlington County team fall to a Colonial.

Group 1 Playoffs:

Paulsboro 10, Woodbury 0 – everyone had Woodbury winning this one, but the Prideboro showed their pride and pulled the second round upset for the second year in a row.

Glassboro 27, Pennsville 21 – 2 OTs – PV showed how tough they are, but Glassboro finally wakes up in the second half and advances

Non- Public Playoffs:

Holy Spirit 34, Pope John XXIII 27 – Holy Spirit was down 27-20 heading into the 4th

St, Joe’s 50, St. Anthony 7 – total domination by St. Joe’s as no one in this group can match up with them

St. Mary-Rutherford 32, Holy Cross 22 – another Burlington County team falls to outside competition

So, this week and last week against outside competition:

old Tri-County (18 teams) = 11-4 (2 teams played in-conference last week and 2 this week) with 2 byes last week

Colonial (12 teams) is 8-3 (2 teams played in-conference last week and same this week) (2-3 vs. Classic/Diamond)

CAL (16 teams) = 9-10 with 1 bye last week (2 teams played in-conference this week)

Old Burlco/Olympic (33 teams) = 6-20 (10 teams played in-conference) with 1 bye last week

Gloucester County (13 teams) = 10-3 last week and 2-0 this week

Salem County (5 teams) = 3-1 with 1 bye last week and 0-1 this week

Atlantic County (10 teams) = 7-3 last week and 2-2 this week

Cumberland County (4 teams) = 2-1 with 1 bye last week with no games this week

Camden County (23 teams) = 8-13 (2 teams played in-county) last week and 1-1 this week

Burlington County (19 teams) = 4-12 (2 teams played in-county) with 1 bye last week and 1-2 this week

Cape May County (4 teams) = 0-3 with 1 bye last week with no games this week

I only cover 1 team outside these counties (New Egypt) and they won last week and lost this week.

My top 5 for each public group: Remember that I keep last year's top teams where they left off unless they are unimpressive

(after Saturday 11/20)

Group 4:

1. Cherokee (10-0)

2. Oakcrest (8-2) – nice wins in playoffs

3. Pennsauken (6-3) – played well against tough New Brunswick in 1st round

4. Atlantic City (7-3) – disappointing 2nd half of season after big start

5. Egg Harbor Township (6-4)

Possible wildcard:

Williamstown (6-3)

Cherokee should cruise through playoffs!

Group 3:

1. Delsea (10-1) – avenged their only loss!

2. Hammonton (7-3) - losses to Holy Spirit and EHT which are really nice teams

3. Winslow Twp. (6-4)

4. Moorestown (6-3)

5. Burlington Twp. (6-3) - should I move them down and move someone else up?

Possible wildcard:

Cumberland (6-3) nice win over Seneca and very improved since loss to Kingsway

Lacey Twp. is the top seed for playoff and will be favored to win final.

Group 2:

1. West Deptford (10-0)

2. Haddonfield (9-1)

3. Willingboro (9-1)

4. Camden (5-4) - win over Glassboro puts them above LCM, but Group belongs to the top 3

5. Lower Cape May (6-3)

Group 1: Big shuffle this week

1. Glassboro (8-2) – bad decision on 4th down cost them game against Group 2 playoff team – one win against a top 4 seed – nice 1st round win and exciting 2nd round come from behind win

2. Penns Grove (7-1) - only loss to Glassboro (by 1 point) and has hammered everybody since – no wins against a top 4 seed – best team not in playoffs

3. Pennsville (9-1) - only undefeated team in Group – one win against a top 4 seed – big scare in 1st round nad tough loss in second round

4. Paulsboro (9-1) – beat Schalick by 14 compared to Glassboro beating them by 40 and PG beating them by 54

5. Woodbury (8-2) – only loss to Group 2 team - wins against 2 teams in top 4 seedings for their Groups – closer first round game than expected – drops to 5th after poor showing in playoffs

New Egypt (7-3) just would not be able to hang with the above teams, but they are in the Central semi-finals.

Glassboro and Paulsboro avenged regular season losses and will meet in finals.

Non-Publics (all together):

1. Holy Spirit (10-0)

2. St. Joseph's (8-1)

3. Paul VI (7-2)

4. Holy Cross (8-1) - weak schedule showed itself in playoffs

5. Camden Catholic (5-4)

Gloucester Catholic, St. Augustine and Bishop Eustace do not seem to be able to contend for these rankings.

St. Joe’s and Holy Spirit survive to head to different finals – will be easier for St. Joe’s!

Holy Spirit should have an interesting final against St. Joe of Montvale (which easily handled CC in opening round)

Update - 11/14/10

This weeks significant/interesting games:

Holy Spirit 42, Bishop Ahr 0 – a great win in the first round

Cherokee 35, Absegami 14 – compare to Holy Spirit’s 42-7 win over Gami

Holy Cross 41 – HC is top seed in Non-Public Group 2/1 and has a bye!

West Deptford 44, Point Pleasant Boro 13 – top seed in Group 2 and showed why – 24-0 before PPB scored

Willingboro 45, Camden 13 – showing the strength of the top 2 teams in Group 2!

St. Joe’s – gets a bye

Woodbury 12, Haddon Heights 7 – much closer than expected

Seton Hall Prep 47, Paul VI 13 – greatly overmatched in this game

Delsea 38, Woodrow Wilson 0 – avenged their only loss with a big bang!!!!!

Hammonton 30, Burlington Twp. 14 – 16-14 at the end of the 3rd

So far my top ten has survived although Paul VI has a tough road trip today and could fall.

Pennsville 27, Audubon 25 – PV gets a nice come from behind win and stays undefeated

Winslow Twp. 47, Moorestown 14 – Winslow beating good teams lately

Oakcrest 38, Williamstown 13 – My #17 easily handles my #13 and will grab that spot or higher

Atlantic City 32, Millville 24– AC avenges a loss after losing 2 in a row

Penns Grove - lost in court and is best team not in playoffs

Egg Harbor Twp. 22, Shawnee 7 – WJFL Group 4 showing weakness against CAL teams – WJFL has the best team, but CAL has the next 3 remaining in playoffs

St. Joe’s Montvale 42, Camden Catholic 20

Haddonfield 35, Manchester 6 – easy time for the Haddons

Glassboro 40, Gloucester 6 - Bulldogs roll off 40 straight points after falling behind 6-0 as if they got a wake-up call!

Paulsboro 21, Schalick 7 – Schalick kept it close

Barnegat 29, Lower Cape May 28 -and Barnegat advances in Group 2

Lacey Twp. 27, Timber Creek 6 – Delsea had beaten TC by 9 early in the season

North Brunswick 36, Pennsauken 33 – see saw battle with NB scoring last

Sayreville 53, Rancocas Valley 21

New Egypt 21, Florence 14 – NE avenges a loss and moves forward

Keyport 35, Palmyra 20 – move to central still did not help Pals in playoffs

Interesting consolations:

Gloucester County teams (not in Group 4) won all of their Friday consolations and only lost one on Saturday:

Deptford 20, Buena 17

Pitman 36, Lindenwold 20 – and consider that Pitman lost 60-0 last week to PG!

Gateway 37, Riverside 34 –and consider that Gateway had to forfeit last week!

Clearview 20, Triton 13

Kingsway 54, Pinelands 15 – and to think that Pinelands though they were unjustly left out of the playoffs

Haddon Twp 28, Clayton 6

Vineland 20, Washington Twp. 7 – as CAL shows more dominance over WJFL Group 4!

So, Gloucester County is 10-3

Woodstown 29, Maple Shade 6

Cumberland 34, Seneca 28 – old Tri-County wins 3 consolations and one playoff game against old Olympic-Burlco

Only old Tri-County teams to lose to a non Tri-Co team on Friday were Williamstown and Highland!

On Saturday Clayton (as expected) and Schalick lost.

Central Regional 21, Highland 20 – well Highland got close to a win

Gloucester Catholic 48 Cardinal McCarrick 8

Salem 33, Overbrook 22

Wildwood does not have a consolation
CAL gets mixed reviews:

St. Augustine 35, St. John Vianney 10

Mainland 20, Southern Regional 13

Brick Twp. 27, Ocean City 20

Sterling 26, Middle Twp. 6

Lakewood 42, Pleasantville 14

Bridgeton does not have a consolation

Collingswood 34, Cinnaminson 7

Burlington City 42, Point Pleasant Beach 39 – as both PPBs have bad nights

Bordentown 18, Voorhees 0 – Bordentown gets their 2nd win

Toms River North 31, Lenape 14 – another loss for old Burlco/Olympic Groups 3 and 4

Somerville 54, Northern Burlington 29 – ditto

So, this week against outside competition:

old Tri-County (18 teams) = 10-4 (2 teams played in-conference) with 2 byes

Colonial (12 teams) is 7-3 (2 teams played in-conference) (2-3 vs. Classic/Diamond; 5-0 against the rest)

CAL (16 teams) = 7-8 with 1 bye

Old Burlco/Olympic (33 teams) = 5-17 (10 teams played in-conference) with 1 bye

Gloucester County (13 teams) = 10-3

Salem County (5 teams) = 3-1 with 1 bye

Atlantic County (10 teams) = 7-3

Cumberland County (4 teams) = 2-1 with 1 bye

Camden County (23 teams) = 8-13 (2 teams played in-county)

Burlington County (19 teams) = 4-12 (2 teams played in-county) with 1 bye

Cape May County (4 teams) = 0-3 with 1 bye

I only cover 1 team outside these counties (New Egypt) and they won.

My top 5 for each public group:

(after Saturday 11/13)

Group 4:

1. Cherokee (9-0)

2. Oakcrest (7-2) – nice win over Williamstown

3. Atlantic City (7-2) – avenged last week’s loss

4. Egg Harbor Township (6-3)

5. Pennsauken (6-3) – played well against tough North Brunswick

Possible wildcards:

Williamstown (6-3)

Shawnee (5-4)

Millville (5-3)

Cherokee should cruise through playoffs!

Group 3: toughest Group to rank!

1. Delsea (9-1) – avenged their only loss!

2. Hammonton (7-2) - losses to Holy Spirit and EHT which are really nice teams

3. Winslow Twp. (6-3)

4. Moorestown (6-3)

5. Burlington Twp. (6-3) - should I move them down and move someone else up?

Possible wildcard:

Cumberland (6-3) nice win over Seneca and very improved since loss to Kingsway

Lacey Twp. will be top seed for playoffs and will be favored to beat all these teams.

Group 2:

1. West Deptford (9-0)

2. Willingboro (9-0)

3. Haddonfield (8-1)

4. Camden (5-4) - win over Glassboro puts them above LCM, but Group belongs to the top 3

5. Lower Cape May (6-3)

Look for WD and W’boro to meet in finals with WD winning on home field

Barnegat is a semi-finalist from Ocean County and plays WD next

Group 1:

1. Woodbury (8-1) – only loss to Group 2 team - wins against 2 teams in top 4 seedings for their Groups – closer first round game than expected

2. Pennsville (9-0) - only undefeated team in Group – one win against a top 4 seed – big scare in 1st round

3. Penns Grove (7-1) - only loss to Glassboro (by 1 point) and has hammered everybody since – no wins against a top 4 seed – best team not in playoffs

4. Glassboro (7-2) – bad decision on 4th down cost them game against Group 2 playoff team – one win against a top 4 seed – nice 1st round win

5. Paulsboro (8-1) – big defeat to Woodbury has them at #6 – no wins against a top 4 seed – beat Schalick by 14 compared to Glassboro beating them by 40 and PG beating them by 54

New Egypt (7-2) just would not be able to hang with the above teams, but they are in the Central semi-finals.

Glassboro hopes to avenge loss to PV on home field. Winner nust face a rested Woodbury in finals with Woodbury the highly favored winner of this group as PG lost their case and loses chance to prove themselves.

Non-Publics (all together):

1. Holy Spirit (9-0)

2. Holy Cross (8-0) - bye

3. St. Joseph's (7-1) - bye

4. Paul VI (7-1)

5. Camden Catholic (5-4)

Gloucester Catholic, St. Augustine and Bishop Eustace do not seem to be able to contend for these rankings.

Look for St. Joe’s and Holy Cross to meet in finals on neutral field – should be very interesting game!

Holy Spirit should have an interesting final against St. Joe’s of Montvale (which easily handled CC in opening round)

Update - 11/07/10

This weeks significant/interesting games:

Cherokee 33, Cherry Hill West 14 – another solid win

Holy Spirit 34, St. Augustine 7 – also a solid win

Lenape 35, Paul VI 20 – ouch: this hurts them, but consider that they beat Winslow and Moorestown

Holy Cross 41, Bordentown 0 – HC is top seed in Non-Public Group 2/1 and gets a bye!

Winslow Twp. 34, Williamstown 27 – Williamstown’s defense shows some weakness but Winslow has beaten both Williamstown and Shawnee – hard to figure out Winslow with losses to Clearview and Pennsauken both of which lost to Township and Shawnee.

West Deptford 42, Overbrook 8 – top seed in Group 2 – will weak schedule hurt them as it did last year, but they were impressive against Woodbury

Willingboro 40, Northern Burlington 11 – an “ok” win

Delsea 38, Deptford 17 – Deptford scores first and then later controls the 4th quarter  All Delsea in-between!

Moorestown 20, Camden Catholic 13 – CC led at the half

Woodbury 22, Collingswood 14 – can’t figure Collingswood out as they played this closer than expected

That covers my previous top 10 teams

Hammonton 7, Absegami 3 – much closer than expected as Hammonton had to score in the 4th to win

Millville 26, Atlantic City 6 – AC loses 2 in a row

Pennsville 37, Gloucester Catholic 20 – PV gets their only taste outside of Group 1 – trailed 14-7 after 1st, but came on strong in 2nd.

Shawnee 35, Washington Twp. 34 – much closer than expected

St. Joe’s 20, EHT 7 – another very good showing for SJ and they will move up again as EHT slips down

Notre Dame 27, Burlington Twp. 7 – BT runs into some serious competition!

Camden 9, Glassboro 7 - Bulldogs lose again on the road and without the James brothers – should have won this game anyway, but going for it on 4th and failing cost them the game – a punt would have sealed a victory!

Penns Grove 60, Pitman 0 – despite 1st game loss to Glassboro, they manhandled all of the common opponents!

Oakcrest - bye

Haddonfield 1, Gateway 0 - forfeit

Paulsboro 21, Lindenwold 6 – Lindenwold scored first

Camden Catholic 21, Bishop Eustace 7 – no surprise here, but it was 7-7 at the half

Cinnaminson - bye

Woodrow Wilson 25, Triton 15 – WW beats another weak team and trailed at the half

Lower Cape May 44, Pleasantville 25 – LCM heading towards playoff slot, but P’ville is winless and LCM has no impressive wins!

Cumberland 24, Clearview 7 – but Cumberland still fails to make playoffs!

Pennsauken 34, Eastern 7 – Pennsauken rebounds, but do I bring them back into the rankings?

Hamilton 24, Rancocas Valley 23 – RV loses 2 close ones in a row, but still makes playoffs in Central Group 4

My top 5 for each public group: Remember that I keep last year's top teams where they left off unless they are unimpressive

(after Saturday 11/06)

Group 4: Top 3 belong to WJFL

1. Cherokee (8-0)

2. Williamstown (6-2)

3. Shawnee (5-3)

4. Oakcrest (6-2) - looks solid for playoffs

5. Atlantic City (6-2) – just can’t see them ahead of Shawnee

Possible wildcards:

Egg Harbor Township (5-3)

Millville (5-3) – beat AC lost to EHT which lost to AC!
Absegami also makes playoffs but only because of forfeit win and kicks Ocean County teams out of South playoffs!

Rancocas Valley (5-2) – both losses are to teams that we are not familiar with

Pennsauken (5-2) - losses to Shawnee and Washington Township, but beat Winslow (Central Jersey for playoffs)

TRN from Ocean County and EHT should join this group for playoffs. Maybe Mainland or Southern or who knows whom too?

Cherokee should cruise through playoffs!

Group 3: toughest Group to rank!

1. Delsea (8-1)

2. Moorestown (6-2) losses are to Top Ten teams – won but not by big margin so they are #2 - Hammonton has higher playoff seed

3. Hammonton (6-2) - losses to Holy Spirit and EHT

4. Winslow Twp. (5-3) – wins when they shouldn’t and lose whent hey shouldn’t – tough team to figure out

5. Burlington Twp. (6-2) - losses are to undefeated teams

Woodrow Wilson (6-2) – only one impressive win and 2 losses are to teams 8 and 9 in power points

Timber Creek (5-3) also under consideration for wildcard – 8th seed and beat WW

Cumberland (5-3) nice win over Clearview, but not enough power points

Kingsway (4-4) – losses are all to very tough teams – beat Cumberland which beat WW – must depend upon residuals and is unlikely for playoffs

Seneca (4-4) – must depend upon residuals and is unlikely for playoffs

Delsea beat TC and Cumberland which both beat WW which beat Delsea. TC also lost to Moorestown

Lacey Twp. will be top seed for playoffs and will be favored to beat all these teams.

Group 2:

1. West Deptford (8-0)

2. Willingboro (8-0) - but should be 1st seed in playoffs

3. Haddonfield (7-1)

4. Camden (5-3) - win over Glassboro puts them above LCM

5. Lower Cape May (6-2) – welcome to the rankings and the playoffs!

Cinnaminson (5-3) has only lost to ranked teams and it is tough to leave them out of rankings, but they are in the playoffs and could move back up as others also lose in first round

2 Ocean County teams will be in playoffs.

Look for WD and W’boro to meet in finals with WD winning on home field.

Look for Barnegat to possibly knock off LCM in round 1

Group 1:

1. Woodbury (7-1) – only loss to Group 2 team - wins against 2 teams in top 4 seedings for their Groups

2. Pennsville (8-0) - only undefeated team in Group – one win against a top 4 seed

3. Penns Grove (7-1) - only loss to Glassboro and has hammered everybody since – no wins against a top 4 seed

4. Glassboro (6-2) – bad decision on 4th down cost them game against group 2 playoff team – one win against a top 4 seed

5. Paulsboro (7-1) – big defeat to Woodbury has them at #6 – no wins against a top 4 seed

New Egypt (6-2), Palmyra (6-2) and Florence (5-3) just would not be able to hang with the above teams, but they are in the central playoffs.

Schalick, Audubon, Gloucester and Haddon Heights are also playoff bound

Glassboro should avenge loss to PV on home field and face a rested Woodbury in finals with Woodbury the highly favored winner of this group unless PG wins their case and changes everything.

Non-Publics (all together):

1. Holy Spirit (9-0)

2. Holy Cross (8-0)

3. St. Joseph's (7-1)

4. Paul VI (7-1)

5. Camden Catholic (5-3) – three close losses in a row, but should have 8th seed in playoffs

Gloucester Catholic, St. Augustine and Bishop Eustace do not seem to be able to contend for these rankings.

Look for St. Joe’s and Holy Cross to meet in finals on neutral field – should be very interesting game!

Paul VI should lose in 1st round as the competition is just too much in their group.

Holy Spirit should have an interesting final against St. Joe’s of Montvale (which should handle CC in opening round)
