Buena (5-0) beats Penns Grove 13-6; last year they did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 148-60; they have outscored their 4 returning opponents 135-54 compared to being outscored 109-71 last year against the same teams; 3 game win streak – last loss in 2007 to St. Augustine – record indicates significant improvement from last year

It is hard to know where to rank GC. I rank them above some of the other undefeated team based on level of competition, but that is debatable.

Haddonfield (5-0) beats Haddon Twp. 21-18; last year they won 30-0 they have outscored their 5 opponents 156-57; they have outscored their returning 4 opponents 122-50 compared to 86-35 last year against the same teams; 7 game win streak - last loss in 2007 to West Deptford – record indicates some improvement from last year

Paulsboro (5-0) did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 177-40; they have outscored their 4 returning opponents 132-33 compared to 104-14 last year against the same teams; 5 game win streak – last loss in 2007 to Glassboro – record indicates slightly, but not significantly better than last year; probable 3rd seed in South Group 1

Paulsboro and Haddonfield have common opponents Woodbury and Overbrook. Paulsboro beat them 72-20 and Haddonfield beat them 62-19. Very slight edge to Paulsboro, but Paulsboro is ranked ahead of Haddonfield based on last meeting between the two.

West Deptford (5-0) did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 220-48; they have outscored their 3 returning opponents 130-28 compared to 69-46 last year against the same teams; 6 game win streak – last loss in 2007 to Paulsboro – record indicates significant improvement over last year

Paulsboro and West Deptford have common opponents Lindenwold, Audubon and Overbrook. Paulsboro has outscored them 110-33. WD has outscored them 132-27. I keep Paulsboro ahead of WD in my rankings based on the last meeting between the 2, but there is a logical argument for WD. So, consider them even.

West Deptford and Haddonfield have common opponents Overbrook and Sterling. WD beat them 94-37 and Haddonfield beat them 72-21. Very slight edge to WD.

So, Paulsboro, WD and Haddonfield get ranked closely together. And they will play to decide it.

Williamstown (5-0) beat Clearview 41-21; last year they won 8-7; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 176-36; they have outscored their 3 returning opponents 108-21 compared to 59-20 last year against the same teams; 6 game win streak – last loss in 2007 to Eastern – record indicates significant improvement from last year

Florence (4-1) beats New Egypt 27-7; last year they won 57-28; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 131-63; they have outscored their 3 returning opponents 85-29 compared to 145-28 last year against the same teams; 2 game win streak – last loss in 2008 to Woodrow Wilson in OT – record indicates significantly down in scoring margin from last year

Holy Cross (4-1) beats Burlington City 27-6; last year they did not play; they outscored their first 5 opponents 89-59; they have been outscored by their 2 returning opponents 41-21 compared to outscoring 55-13 last year against the same teams; 4 game win streak ends – last previous loss in 2007 to Moorestown – record indicates significantly down from last year

Florence and Holy Cross have common opponent Burlington City. Florence beat them 37-8 and Holy Cross beat them 27-6. Florence lost in OT and Holy Cross lost by 27. So, Florence gets the slight edge, but I suspect that Holy Cross is probably the better team.

Holy Spirit (4-1) did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 187-39 compared to 233-34 last year against the same teams; 17 game win streak ends – previous last loss in 2006 to Immaculata – record indicates a lower ranking than last year, but you can’t fault them for the big loss to Mainland after the way Mainland beat Hammonton this week – they deserve to be ranked higher than some of the undefeated teams and I will adjust my rankings to reflect that!

New Egypt (4-1) loses to Florence 27-7; Last year they did not lost 57-28; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 99-91 they have outscored their 4 returning opponents 69-67 compared to 117-83 last year against the same teams; 1 game losing streak – last win in 2008 over Woodrow Wilson – record indicates significantly down in scoring margin from last year

New Egypt and Holy Cross have common opponent Burlington City. New Egypt beat them 24-6 and Holy Cross beat them 27-6. New Egypt lost their one game by 20 and Holy Cross lost their one game by 27. So, it is a tough call.

Penns Grove (4-1) loses to Buena 13-6; last year they did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 136-25; they have outscored their 4 returning opponents 130-12 compared to 145-22 last year against the same teams; 5 game win streak - last loss in 2007 to Paulsboro – record indicates one more win against returning opponents, but similar to last year in scoring

Pennsville (4-1) beats Pitman 36-14; last year they won 48-0; they have outscored their first 4 opponents 143-105; they are been outscored by their first 3 returning opponents 76-69 compared to outscoring 89-34 last year against the same teams; 4 game win streak – last loss in 2008 to Glassboro – record indicates significantly down in scoring margin from last year

Pennsville and Penns Grove have common opponent Pitman. PV won 36-14 and PG won 40-0. So, PG gets the edge. PG won their last meeting. See comparison of PV to Gloucester below.

WT and Holy Spirit each have one loss to highly regard teams. They both get ranked above some undefeated teams. It is hard to judge which is better, but Holy Spirit gets the edge based on last year’s rankings.

(4-2) lost to Pemberton 20-14; last year they lost 32-24 OT; they have outscored their first 6 opponents 123-82; they have been outscored by their 3 returning opponents 40-34 compared to outscoring 99-68 last year against the same teams – record indicates significantly down in scoring margin from last year

Delran (3-2) did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 96-62; they have been outscored by their 3 returning opponents 71-45 compared to 90-66 last year against the same teams; record indicates similar scoring margins as last year

Delsea (3-2) did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 141-121; they have outscored their 4 returning opponents 120-109 compared to 84-75 last year against the same teams (also 2-2); record indicates similar scoring margins (but more scoring) as last year

Delsea lost to Clearview. They have common opponent Gloucester Catholic. Delsea lost to GC 54-26 and Clearview lost 45-42. It is easy to rank Clearview ahead of Delsea.

St. Joe's (3-2) did not play; they have outscored their first 5 opponents 119-53; they have outscored their 4 returning opponents 119-29 compared to 68-69 last year against the same teams– record indicates significant improvement from last year despite more losses at this stage of the season

St. Joe’s and undefeated Buena have common opponents Bridgeton, Middle Twp. and Pleasantville. St. Joe’s beat them 110-6 and Buena beat them 114-39. So, St. Joe’s gets the edge over undefeated Buena.

Bridgeton/Schalick/Delran – none of them has beaten a winning team. I could rank them in any order so I will go with they left off last year (Bridgeton #11, Delran #13 and Schalick #17).

Haddon Twp. (3-3) loses to Haddonfield 21-18; last year they won 18-16; they have outscored their first 6 opponents 86-72; they have been outscored by their 5 returning opponents 67-52 compared to 90-63 last year against the same teams; record indicates similar to last year
